In Sydney last month, the Emerging Minds team were delighted to introduce the National Workforce Centre for Child Mental Health to the member organisations of the Association of Children’s Welfare Agencies (ACWA) at their two day forum on assessing parental capacities and working with parents. The ACWA is the NSW non-government peak body representing the voice of community organisations working with vulnerable children, young people, and their families. We look forward to a partnership evolving with these community organisations and the ACWA to support the workforce in developing the capacity to identify, assess, and support the social and emotional issues of children and their families.
Ruby and Amanda from Emerging Minds also met with the team who support the Women’s and Children’s Program at Flourish Australia. This service supports mothers living with mental illness and their children with finding a safe place to live, parenting, child development, and looking after their mental health. The team had engaged in our online training resources as part of their workplace orientation and ongoing professional development. The ‘Let’s Talk about Children’ resource was cited as a useful tool to engage with the mothers who are balancing the juggle of parenting and mental health recovery. We are excited to continue working with Flourish Australia, and other organisations, providing support to adults who are experiencing vulnerabilities whilst caring for children as well as services working directly with children.
