The big adventure

Mater Hospital and Health Services Brisbane, Australia, 2014

‘The big adventure’ was created by a group of parents who have a lived experience of mental illness. These parents were looking for an appropriate way to open up discussion with their primary-school-aged children about living with mental illness. They workshopped some of the ways in which their illness presented, how it looked, sounded, moved and interacted with the world. The result is a story that helps parents and children to talk together about the family’s experience of mental illness.

This story is suitable for children aged between six and 10 years, and ‘…for anyone else who might enjoy a good story’.
