Developing a plan: Common practice challenges in child mental health

Emerging Minds and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Australia, June 2023

Establishing goals and developing a plan for the treatment, care and management of child mental health concerns requires a range of skills to ensure these are aligned to the needs of the child and family. Based on a case study, this webinar with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) explores the skills required to respond to practice challenges including:

  • Creating family-led support plans that address multiple factors that might be impacting the family.
  • Putting supports in place when there is a lack of specialist services available, or there are long waitlists.

Learning outcomes

  1. Identify opportunities to work with families when developing support plans
  2. Respond to a range of practice challenges when developing a plan, using a child-centred and family-focused approach
  3. Identify ways to support families while they are on a waitlist for another service
