Emerging Minds, Australia, May 2024

Resource Summary

We invited children in an art group to draw what they do, or things in their life that help them, to cope with challenges and feel positive feelings. Their strengths and artworks are brought to life in the following video (1 minute, 5 seconds) where they explain how they get through tough times.

  • Rachel, aged 9: Dolphins like swimming in pods and moving fast just like me. Moving around lots and talking to my teddy helps me deal with problems.

Archer, aged 9: My strength for overcoming challenges is creativity. When I’m feeling worried, I like to do art.

Lily, aged 10: The two red pandas in this picture represent me and papa. I like to spend time with him. When I feel worried or sad.

Amelia, aged 10: When I feel like I have a problem I like to read to take my mind off it and stop stressing.

Jordan, aged 9: I like doing art and making things when I feel sad or stressed.

Violet, aged 7: When I’m sad or scared, I comfort myself by hiding under my bed covers.

Anna, aged 6: When I feel sad, I’m good at asking mummy for cuddles. Also, cats are my favorite animal, which is why I made me and mummy into cats in my picture.
