Lockie Leonard is a teenage “surf rat” who moves from the city to Angelus, Western Australia. He experiences many important changes in his life. His mother experiences depression and has the greatest affect on his life, as she has to stay in the hospital and Lockie is left to take responsibility of the household chores. Other changes which affect Lockie involve his personal relationships with his family and ex-girlfriend Vicki.
